Saree and dupatta draping in Toronto and the GTA: who to book and what to ask

Saree draping is one of the few wedding-morning jobs with no category anywhere. The big directories list hair and makeup, mehndi, decor and DJs, and stop. Search for a draper in the GTA and you get individual Instagram accounts, a TikTok hashtag, and a classifieds page. There are plenty of people doing this work, and no list of them.

This is that list, plus the things worth knowing before you message anyone.

Draping is its own booking, and often its own person

Plenty of makeup artists drape, and if yours does, that is one less person to coordinate. But draping is a separate craft, and on a wedding morning it is a separate slot in the timeline. What the job actually involves:

• Pleating. Even, matched pleats that hold their shape for twelve hours, in a fabric that may be heavy silk or may be chiffon that slides out of a pin.
• Securing it. The whole thing has to survive a ceremony, a photo shoot, a car, and a great deal of hugging without being re-pinned.
• Weight and drape. A heavily worked bridal saree can weigh several kilos, and where that weight sits decides whether you can walk comfortably in it.
• Working around everything else. Jewellery, a dupatta, a headpiece, and the order it all goes on in. This is why draping usually happens after hair and makeup.
• Changeovers. A second look for the reception is a second full drape, and it has to be in the timeline and the quote.

The distinction nobody explains: pre-pleating is not draping

These are two different jobs and some people do only one.

Pre-pleating happens days before. The saree is ironed, the pleats are set and stitched or pressed so they hold, and it comes back ready. It is the difference between a calm morning and forty minutes of someone kneeling on a hotel floor.

Draping is the morning itself, on you, in the room.

Ask which one you are buying. A quote for "saree draping" from someone who assumes the saree arrives pre-pleated is not the same quote as one that includes the pleating.

Style is regional, and "saree draping" hides that

A Tamil koorai saree, a Gujarati seedha pallu, a Bengali drape and a lehenga-style drape are not variations of one technique. Several of the drapers below specialise in a particular tradition, and their portfolios show it clearly. If your wedding follows a specific regional style, say so in your first message rather than at the fitting.

The same applies in the other direction: some of these drapers also do veshti ironing and pleating for the men in the wedding party, which is a service that appears on no directory anywhere.

What to ask before you book

• Pre-pleating, draping, or both? See above. This is the question that changes the price.
• Do you drape this style? Name the tradition, and send a photo of the actual saree.
• Who supplies the pins, padding and safety pins? And do you want a petticoat fitted first?
• How long do you need, and where do you sit in the morning? This has to be agreed with the makeup artist and hairstylist, not settled on the day.
• Is a changeover included? A reception look is usually a second booking.
• Do you travel, and is travel extra? The GTA is large.
• Deposit and cancellation terms, in writing. One of the services below requires 50% and a signed contract, which is a good sign rather than a bad one.

When to book

Later than a makeup artist, earlier than you think. Drapers are not usually booked a year out, but the good ones are taken on peak Saturdays, and if you want pre-pleating you need to hand the saree over well before the week of the wedding.

Drapers working in the GTA

Grouped by where each is based, though most travel across the GTA, so treat the area as a starting point rather than a limit. Every entry was checked against the business’s own page in September 2026, and anything whose site or account had gone quiet was left out rather than listed on the strength of a search result. Plenty of candidates were checked and not listed: pages that still rank in search but are dead or empty, accounts that look perfectly active and have not posted since early 2024, a site that loads while its booking pages do not, accounts too new to send a bride to, and busy pleaters who publish no city at all, which is a real pattern in this trade. Everything below is what each business says publicly about its own work. Nobody paid to appear.

How this list was made

Order is not a ranking. Areas run Toronto first, since that is where most readers are, then alphabetically. Within an area the businesses are listed alphabetically by name. Nobody is ranked, and nothing about the order reflects what we think of anyone’s work.
